The technology

The traditional routes of drug administration are intravenous (injection), per oral (tablet), inhalation (spray), trans dermal (patch), and rectal (suppository). There traditional preparations are being challenged by new preparation technologies that aim for improved properties such as availability, onset, and uptake.

Release directly to the bloodstream via the mucosa of the mouth.

NorInvent’s technology facilitates new forms of drug preparation. By means of the technology, drugs can be administered at the oral mucosa, for example using a gel, patch or film. Instead of ingesting a tablet, taking a detour via the gastrointestinal tract, the preparation could be applied under the upper lip where the saliva releases the drug directly to the bloodstream via the mucosa for a direct effect.

The technology does not change the original substance, it only offers a new way of preparation. The mucosa under the upper lip are among the most delicate in the body, and prior studies have shown them to be very suitable for absorbing drug substances.
